I made some tomato sauce this week and decided it would be fun to make a pizza using it. It turned out I also had some leftover turkey meatballs, so I put them on the pizza too. I also made the crust, so everything but the cheese was homemade.
Pizza crust is pretty easy. This recipe uses 3 cups of flour, 1 cup of warm water, 4 teaspoons of yeast, 6 tablespoons of olive oil, and 2 teaspoons of salt. It makes 4 individual crusts or 2 regular crusts.
Add the yeast to the water and let it proof for about 5 minutes. Put the flour and salt in the bowl of a stand mixer with the dough hook. Add the oil to the water, and then add the water to the flour. Mix on low until combined.
Let the dough rise in a warm place in an oiled bowl wrapped in plastic. Let it double in size. Cut the dough into pieces and form into a crust. Bake your pizza at 500F until crust is brown. The recipe says to use a pizza stone, but I don’t have one. It still works. There isn’t a cooking time, because it really will vary. Keep an eye on it.
